Negotiator, the Lamborghini-powered catamaran driven by Chris Parsonage from Plymouth, entered the record books setting a new round-the-Island speed record in a time of 32 minutes 22 seconds, at an average speed of 111mph.
He became the first person to break the 100 mile an hour speed average for the 59.84 statute mile course, his time absolutely smashed the previous record of 43 minutes set in July 2001.
A starting line-up of 36 boats gathered at Cowes for this highly anticipated Gillette MACH3 NITRO Gel Round-the-Island challenge, one of the new initiatives introduced to the Cowes Powerboat Festival by new promoters, KBL Powerboat Management Ltd.
As the boats set off from Egypt Point, Cowes, in an anti-clockwise direction, thousands of spectators were treated to the spectacular sight of craft of all sizes racing around the Island, led by Negotiator at full speed, complete with rooster tail. The top speed reached was 138mph in almost perfect conditions, the record is likely to stand for some considerable time.
