Even the name is said not to be due to the close proximity of the Roman villa but is in fact due to the existence of a former chapel dedicated to the Breton Prelate </FONT><I><B>St. Urian</B></I><B>.</B></div> <bR> <div> A<FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#660000" FACE="Georgia Ref" > look at any Ordinance Survey map will show tantalising glimpses of “Earthworks”. These are thought to be the remains of Medieval Wolverton Manor and archaeological finds include protective earthworks and cobbled roadways.  Local mythology tells of the City of Wolverton that was destroyed after the desecration of the Sacred Well of St. Urian with the blood of a traveler after the villagers in the mistaken belief that he was poisoning the well beat him to death.
