</STYLE> </HEAD>  </FONT></div> <bR> <div> This ancient town is shown in the Doomsday Book as Berarding and a 17th Century map shows the town as a group of cottages, the 12th century church of St. Wilfred and a port. The sea once came up to the High Street and a stone can be seen showing the high tide mark and moorings.
